Piggy Party

We celebrated Elsa's second birthday this past Saturday with a small gathering of family and friends at the children's playground at Stone Mountain Park. Along with my parents and Jarrett's mom, who were in town for the weekend, several of Elsa's little boyfriends joined us for the pig-errific celebration.

Elsa has quite the love of pigs these days -- and a love of BBQ (one of the few things I can actually get her to eat these days!) -- so we ordered from our favorite local BBQ restaurant, Community Q; Elsa wore a dress adorned with a mama and baby pig, which I just happened to have purchased on sale some time ago; I made gluten-free chocolate cupcakes that were in the form of pig faces; and we sent the kids home with little squishy, spindly piggy balls. Elsa loved the BBQ, but did not care much for the sides (baked beans, macaroni and cheese, and the best coleslaw EVER), as usual. And she seemed to like the marshmallows and chocolate chips, but did not care much for the rest of the cupcake (or at least did not really bother trying).

All the kids had a grand time running around on the fantastic playground equipment. Elsa could hardly concentrate on anything food-related, as she was so distracted by all of the potential fun the slides, bridges, and tunnels had to offer. The weather was gorgeous, and it was really just an all-around wonderful day. We missed all of you family members who could not be here with us!!!

The next morning, before the grandparents left town, we all went out for brunch and then wandered through the Decatur Book Festival. Unfortunately, even by 11:00, the booths were just barely starting to open, so we were not able to see a lot. But Elsa lucked out and got a bunch of loot from the Decatur Fire Department, including a very cool Fire Chief hat. And she had fun seeing the huge, inflatable Book Monster ("Dinosaur!") for the second time (we happened to be in the Square last Thursday right after they'd set him up).
