Labor Day Weekend

On Labor Day weekend, our family made the trip to Bethany (Jarrett's sister) and Jimmy's (Bethany's fiancee) lake house, near Albemarle, North Carolina. The lake house belongs to Jimmy's family, but he and Bethany are currently living there, and it made the perfect weekend getaway spot for somewhat of a family reunion!

We had not seen Bethany in ages, so Elsa was especially thrilled with the time with her beloved aunt. And we had never met Jimmy, so it was wonderful to spend some time getting to know him (we think Bethany chose well :) ). Jarrett's brother, Stephen, and his mom also made it down, which really made it for a fun family gathering -- it was so lovely to see everyone and catch up. Jarrett's granddad even made it down Sunday afternoon!

We lucked out with the weather and, aside from one thunderstorm Sunday evening, had a lot of sunshine. We went out on the boat on Saturday, which both girls were very leery about. Elsa had not been on a speedboat since she was around seven months old, and it was a first for Avie. Both were in tears until we actually started moving. Then Elsa was right up front with her aunt and uncle and grandmom. She even jumped right into the lake with everyone else for a swim in her life vest without any hesitation. Avie enjoyed the boat in the end, but still wanted to stick close to Mommy, not leaving my lap much at all, except when I decided to jump in. And she was not all too thrilled with my decision to do so. "Mommy back in, Mommy back in."

We played a lot of Rummikub and just hung out and chatted. On Sunday morning, we went for a swim in the neighborhood pool, which Elsa loved, despite the fact that the water was colder than that in the lake!

On Monday, we headed back home with a brief stop in Charlotte to have lunch with my parents and brother and to pick up Merckx (thanks, Mom and Dad, for watching him again!). Avie was thoroughly confused over our very short stops at their house, coming and going. We will have to go back for a longer visit soon!
